In most* cases, you DO NOT need to have a paper copy of your life insurance policy in order to file a claim.
You DO, however, have to be the beneficiary or a legal representative of the beneficiary.
Important documents you should have before filing a life insurance claim include:
- Death certificate for the insured
- Policy number
- Valid ID as proof of named beneficiary
The carrier will have you fill out a claim form, send in all necessary paperwork and take it from there!
